Is breakfast really the most important meal of the day? I am not sure that it is for everyone. There are lots of people who don’t eat breakfast and would disagree. Personally, I need breakfast every day. And I think that many of us would agree. In many instances it has been 8-12 hours since our last meal so based on what I know, your body needs energy, so here are some healthy breakfast tips to get you going!!
I know mornings can be crazy. You wake up late. Or don’t want to get out of bed. Or getting everyone else out the door in your household is your focus. Whatever the struggle you face it may leave you without a lot of time to think about eating breakfast, until a couple hours later and you are ravenous or irritated because of your hunger.
Principles to guide you in the morning
Here are some simple ways that you can use intuitive eating to start your day. By using these principles and healthy breakfast tips to get started in the morning, ensures that you start the day off in the best possible way with plenty of energy and a satisfied body.
Honor your hunger
Maybe you aren’t hungry in the morning? I will be honest that is most often the case for me so I get it. With intuitive eating it’s important to honor your hunger and eat when your body needs it. But sometimes you need to eat to allow for your schedule.
By eating breakfast before you leave the house even when you aren’t hungry it may prevent you from entering an over hungry state later on in the morning because you didn’t eat breakfast. When you let yourself reach the ravenous or starving stage it can often triggers overeating.
Choose the foods you want AND that fuel your body best
With intuitive eating, you make food choices based on what you like to eat and what you know you will enjoy. But that doesn’t mean that nutrition doesn’t matter. Or that you don’t make choices based on other factors as well.
My breakfast almost always contains protein. That is what my body needs and it satisfies my hunger the most and for the longest amount of time. Along with the protein I enjoy a fat such as avocado or nuts and a carbohydrate such as fruits and veggies. That is the combination that works best for me — high protein and fat with a bit of carbohydrate as well.
The right combination for you may be different. If you don’t already know, try experimenting with different breakfast combinations to find out what makes you feel your best and most energized that you also enjoy eating.
Meal prep as a form of self-care

Any healthy breakfast tips and other methods you can implement to take care of yourself are going to support your journey with intuitive eating and help you feel your best.
