Pat the block of tofu dry well with a clean tea towel or paper towels and slice into flat cubes or crumble into chunks.

Mix together the soy sauce, one tablespoon (15 ml)  grapeseed oil, garlic powder, paprika, liquid smoke, and black pepper in a small bowl.

Layout the tofu pieces in a baking dish and pour the marinade over the top. Marinate overnight or throughout the day, about 8 hours. Turning it occasionally so all the tofu gets marinated.

When ready to cook, place grapeseed oil in a cast iron skillet or oven-safe baking dish and place it in the oven. Preheat the oven to 400° F with the skillet inside.  When the oven is fully heated, remove the skillet from the oven and place the tofu in a single layer in the skillet. Return to the oven and cook for 20-25 minutes, flipping once halfway through the cooking time.
