Swap out your regular latte with a matcha chai latte! This copycat Starbucks matcha chai latte is a budget-friendly and healthy way to enjoy your favorite green tea latte! Made with simple ingredients you can whip up a homemade beverage just the way you like it in about five minutes.
Heat water to boiling. Place two tea bags in a heatproof bowl or mug and pour 1 cup of water over the top.
Measure out 2 teaspoons of matcha in a small bowl. Add ¼ cup of hot water to the matcha and stir with a whisk back and forth (not using a circular motion) until fully dissolved and slightly frothy on the top.
Heat oat milk over low heat until slightly bubbly around the edges and hot. Use a handheld frother to make the milk foamy. You can also use an espresso machine to steam the milk if you have one.
Add ½ cup of the chai tea to two mugs and 2 tablespoons of matcha. If desired, add sweetener. Then top with the hot, frothy milk. Sprinkle the top of the frothed milk with a bit of matcha and cinnamon.
Notes
Use a good matcha powder for the best flavor. Culinary-grade matcha is adequate and there's no need to splurge on ceremonial matcha powder for this latte.Store your matcha in the freezer or a dark place to make it last longer.Make sure to mix the matcha using a back-and-forthmotion rather than a circular one. For the best matcha flavor and more authentic preparation use a matcha whisk.Sift your matcha to make mixing easier.
