Want to make smoked tofu in the oven? This smoked tofu recipe will show you how to create the perfect smoky tofu for delightful meals everyone will rave about after eating! All you need are a handful of simple ingredients and a few minutes in the kitchen to get it ready.
Pat the tofu dry and slice into flat cubes or crumble into chunks.
Mix together the soy sauce, 1 tablespoon (15 ml) grapeseed oil, garlic powder, paprika, liquid smoke, and black pepper in a small bowl.
Layout the tofu in a baking dish and pour the marinade over the top.
Marinated overnight or throughout the day, about 8 hours.
When ready to cook, place 1 teaspoon (5 ml) grapeseed oil in a cast iron skillet or oven-safe baking dish and place it in the oven. Preheat the oven to 400° F with the skillet inside.
When the oven is fully heated, remove the skillet from the oven and place the tofu in a single layer in the skillet. Return to the oven and cook for 20-25 minutes, flipping once halfway through the cooking time.
Notes
Dry the tofu well with a clean kitchen towel or paper towel. There’s no need to press the tofu in this recipe as I wanted it to have a slightly softer texture inside.
Most flavorful tofu recipe. Marinate for a minimum of four hours though I prefer 8+ hours or overnight.
Use a container with a locking lid for marinating. This makes it super simple to marinate ALL the tofu. You can just flip it over every now and then and it moves the tofu around.
Adding the liquid smoke. I suggest adding it a little bit at a time to get it to the right level. One-half teaspoon was perfect for me. Too much and it may develop a slightly off or bitter taste.
Do not use silken tofu. This type of softer, creamier tofu doesn't work well for this recipe.
