Creamy Chipotle Yogurt Sauce

Creamy Chipotle Yogurt Sauce is a quick and easy sauce to whip up.  You can use it throughout the week for salads, grain bowls, tacos and much more!  I like to keep a batch on hand to use as a snack with homemade tortilla chips or veggies!  And, it is made with only three ingredients, most of which are staples in my house making it even easier to throw together at the last minute.

Chipotle peppers are made by smoking jalapeño peppers.  Resulting in a pepper with a great smoky, spicy flavor.  In this dip, the pepper adds a great umami richness to the flavor.  It comes in a canned version with the actual peppers in adobo sauce and also in a powdered version.

I prefer to use the powder versus the canned chipotles.  You don’t need much of either to make this dip and it’s easier to keep the powder for future use than splitting up the canned chipotles and freezing them.

You can use just about any brand of chipotle chili powder you can find.  This Simply Organic by McCormick brand is one my favorites.  It is available to order from Amazon or pick it up at your local grocery store.

In the dip, I use Greek yogurt to give it the creamy texture.  Using the yogurt also gives you a bit of a protein boost plus some probiotics.  It is an all-around nice alternative to sour cream or mayonnaise.

Creamy Chipotle Yogurt Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/2-1 tsp chipotle chili powder depending on level of spice you prefer
  • 1 cup 2% Greek yogurt
  • Juice of one lime
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix together until combined. Refrigerate until you are ready to serve. It should last up to 7 days under proper refrigeration.
